Why Does Trialfacts Allow 'Unsure' Answers in the Prescreen Questionnaire?

There are a number of reasons why we allow respondents to answer 'unsure' to most of the prescreening questions:

  • When respondents answer 'unsure', it is often because they are confused by the question, and do not fully understand what is being asked of them.
    • It is possible that they are eligible, and just need clarity on a particular question.
  • We don't want to exclude anyone that might be eligible.

Generally, we find that very few people actually do answer questions with 'unsure'. If there is a disproportionate amount of people who are answering 'unsure' and are in fact turning out to be ineligible, we can remove the ‘unsure’ option.
